30 in 30 #16. Wood Nymph Bail Out. Acrylic on board 6×8″

30 in 30 #16. Wood Nymph Bail Out. Acrylic on board 6×8″…was just splashing random liquid acrylic onto the board and, then,,looking at the resulting mess..tried a last ditch effort to rescue it by adding a figure…always a useful cheap trick..not so sure it did much this time however!!30 in 30 #16. In honor of Sept. 11, I am posting a watercolor painting I did of my brother.

In honor of Sept. 11, I am posting a watercolor painting i did of my brother in his last year. Gregor Rowland was a welder and father of five. He had worked on the upper reaches of the World Trade Building when it was first built. In the high winds, he straddled and welded those girders which held the structure together. Years later, he worked as a welder for the NYC MTA, welding the girders which held up the tunnels and bridges of the subways. So, on September 11th, he was sent down into the ‘pit’ to, at first, try to help by cutting through those same girders, in the hope that rescue was possible and, later, he continued to work to keep the ground from collapsing all those who were working there. He served alongside many others in the pit for twelve weeks and a year later, as a result, he was diagnosed with the lung cancer that killed him not long after. I am sad that we only memorialize those people who worked in the building who lost their lives that day, and not those who lost (and are still losing) their lives in the weeks and years after –as well as all those other peoples, in the US and over the world, who have lost their lives due to a blind or purposeful ignorance and rage which leads to so much senseless loss of life. #9/11,#sept11.#worldtrade,

30 in 30 #9. Scrub Brush Marsh pochade box 6×8″ oil on board

30 in 30 #9. Scrub Brush Marsh pochade box 6×8″ oil on board by jada…i am stuck in the city right now so…i uncovered my old pocahde thumb box (Guerilla by Judson’s)..and, of course, as it had sat unused for at least 7 years, the small tubes of old oil paint within it (not to mention all the portable pill f boxes full of paint (my old method of storing and carrying when out in the field) were hardened and had to be thrown out while the tubes screw tops were so hardened that i managed to tore open two of the tubes as i twisted the top trying to open it. i searched unsuccessfully for my other larger paint tubes so i had to settle for the lack of color choice. Suffice it to say, by the time i got some meager amount of paint onto the palette, i had little time to paint anyway…such is the life of the traveling artist!

30in30 #8 quickie acrylic on canvas 5×7 sunset doodle by jada

30in30 #8 quickie (as are all these 30 paintings in 30 days) -this one is acrylic on canvas 5×7-an  imaginary  sunset doodle (don’t like acrylic for this kind of landscape–at least as compared to oil–and, come to think of it, even watercolor!..bad color control… but… such as it is…by jada

30 in 30 day 7-watermelon steak (oil 6×8) by jada

30 in 30 day #7 (I think)-Watermelon Steak (oil 6×8) by jada–kind of going off the Venice sketches that i hadsort of set as my ‘theme’ for this Leslie Saeta organized challenge to make 30 paintings in 30 days  – but – – i’ve had to divert my attention (for a few days)  to family issues as the summer nears  it’s celebratory end and people get back to business – – at least here in the northeast.
